July 2025 IGNiTE Parent Newsletter
As the country prepares to celebrate the 4th of July as a symbol of freedom, let us be reminded that in the African American tradition, Juneteenth also represents freedom from slavery. So, as we attempt to recognize independence, let us not forget that true freedom comes from having a relationship with Christ Jesus. Just as many of our ancestors and allies fought for liberation, justice, and freedom, Jesus paid the price for our eternal freedom.
John 8:36 reminds us that, “…if the Son sets you free, you are free indeed.” Galatians 5:1 also solidifies real freedom, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm…and do not let yourself be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
Our children may ask, What does true freedom really mean? While true freedom is certainly about what Christ saved us from, it is also about how we honor His gift to us—by showing love, living in truth, and walking in purpose.
So, Parents, even while this country is recognizing independence for some and not others, we must remember to teach our children to seek God, stay encouraged, and honor Him for His gift of Freedom to us all.
Here’s What We Learned in June
In June, the study was focused on: Together as Believers. In this unit, the lessons covered stories from the Old Testament on how we honor God when we gather as believers to worship Him. Students were encouraged to respect their church leaders, their parents, love each other, and recognize that God can use them to help adults in their church.
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.” 1 John 4:7
In Teen Church, the students studied Psalm 1 and Psalm 51, where Pastor Percy emphasized the importance of a repentant heart. They were also encouraged to follow Pastor Jay’s Psalm of Song sermon series.
