Dynamic Communicator and Visionary Leader

Pastor Jeffrey A. Johnson II, affectionately known as Pastor Jay, is a dynamic communicator and visionary leader passionate about changing the world through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He currently serves as the Lead Pastor of Eastern Star Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.

A gifted preacher and teacher, Pastor Jay earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from Paine College and a Master of Divinity in Hermeneutics from the Morehouse School of Religion at the Interdenominational Theological Center. Before becoming Lead Pastor, he served as Associate Pastor of Preaching and Teaching at Eastern Star Church, providing spiritual leadership across campuses and generations.

He formerly served as the Senior Pastor of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, where he was instrumental in leading significant growth, implementing innovative ministry initiatives, and fostering a vibrant, engaged church community.

Known for his artistic approach to preaching, Pastor Jay creatively presents the Word of God through spoken word and poetic insight. He is a truth-teller, skillfully bridging the gap between ancient biblical texts and modern culture, making the Gospel accessible and relevant to all. His dynamic teaching and preaching have a unique ability to impact and inspire individuals across all generations.

He has preached nationally and serves as a workshop presenter and advisory board member for the IC3 Issachar Church Conference. He is also the author of A Story to Tell: A 40-Day Focus on Your Walk With God.

Pastor Jay is joyfully married to Janelle Rae, and together they have three sons: Dylan Kyle, Jeffrey Allen III, and Jeremiah August Raymond.

About Lady Janelle

Lady Janelle is a warm, welcoming presence and a passionate connector who finds joy in building meaningful relationships. With over 15 years of experience in the events and tourism industry, she is a seasoned hospitality professional who currently serves as the Conventions Destination Experience Manager at Visit Indy, the official tourism and convention bureau for the city of Indianapolis. In her career, Janelle has also held roles at both Radio One and Indiana Black Expo, where she was instrumental in producing some of Indianapolis’ most beloved and high-impact cultural events.

A proud graduate of Indiana University Indianapolis, Janelle is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Christian Theological Seminary, where she is deepening her heart for service and commitment to the emotional and spiritual well-being of families.

She is an active and proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, where she continues to lead and serve with grace, excellence, and purpose.

At their former church, Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, Janelle was instrumental in spearheading a number of impactful initiatives including Children’s Church, New Members Orientation, New Members Breakfasts, and Ministry Fairs. Her passion for member engagement and cultivating a strong sense of belonging within the church community continues to shape her ministry today.

Janelle is married to Pastor Jeffrey A. Johnson II (Pastor Jay), and together they have three loving sons; Dylan Kyle, Jeffrey Allen III, and Jeremiah August Raymond. Their lives are rooted in faith, family, service, and community. As spiritual leaders, Pastor Jay and Lady Janelle are devoted to helping others grow in Christ while inspiring hope, healing, and purpose for generations to come.
