Know Your Worth

Scripture:

14: I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.

Psalm 139 (NKJV)

3: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

4: just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,

5: having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

6: to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

Ephesians 1 (NKJV)

Times are changing so rapidly; it’s hard to keep up! Advances in medicine, technology, and transfer of information are evolving daily. Twenty-four hour news cycles keep people informed of everything that is happening in the world today, yesterday, even speaking into tomorrow. The problem is – not much of it is good news. Headline-grabbing, yes. Attention-grabbing, yes. But life-affirming? Not even close. So … what to do?

In order to maintain peace and a sense of self in this ever-changing world, people have to know who they are. They have to know their worth. They must stop allowing social media tell them who they are. They must stop comparing themselves to others. They cannot allow the negativity of the news or television programming to define their outlook. Instead, they must look into the truth of God’s Word and allow Him to define for them just who they are.

What does the Bible tell them about who they are? A whole lot! They are blessed. They are righteous. They are sanctified. They have been justified. They are holy. They have been redeemed. They are new creations in Christ. They are children of the King. The King’s children don’t get their self-worth from the world; it is imputed to them by virtue of who their Father is.

That’s why it is so important that they know their worth. When they have confidence in who they are, it becomes harder for others to convince them of anything different. They walk differently. Their outlook and attitude are different. They believe differently. And because of who they are, because they know that they are enough in Him, they also know that they bring a lot to the table. Love. Prayer. Faith. Support. Intelligence. Wisdom. Purpose. Class. Ambition. Value. Drive. Peace. Joy. Hope.

The world is changing at the speed of life! But that doesn’t change who God’s people are because they are children of the God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The same God who loved them enough to die for them is the same God who is cheering them on, inviting them to live for Him. They should give Him the best they can out of the overflow of their love and esteem for Him. He’s worth it!

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for making Your people in Your image and in Your likeness. They have what they need because they are complete in You. Help them to remember that they are more than conquerors in You. Help them to remember that they are blessed and highly favored in You. Help them to remember that they are heirs of the Kingdom in Christ in You. Help them to trust and believe the promises of Your Word. Thank You making Your children whole, with nothing missing and nothing broken. You have given them every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, and that is enough. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Reflection:

Because the people of God belong to the God of the people, they can be assured that they are enough. Imperfect, but enough. Flawed, but enough. Limited, but enough. Incomplete, but enough. Broken, but enough. Because of the promises they read in the Word, they know that better is coming. The day is coming when imperfection will put on perfection, and those who are His will look just like Him, because they will see Him as He is. Until then, they can confidently live this life to the fullest because they know who they are. They have no doubt of their worth. They know that they are enough.
