God has put it on the heart of our Senior Pastor, Jeffrey Johnson, Sr., to challenge us to “Grow Up!” (Ephesians 4:15 NLT). What I love about this theme is that it applies to everyone. If we can be honest, all of us have room to grow up. God is looking for Christians to move beyond receiving the gift of salvation into the process of sanctification, becoming more and more like Christ. The Bible encourages us to grow and mature when it says "when I became a man, I put away childish things" (1 Corinthians 13:11) or when Paul challenges us to “work out our salvation” (Philippians 2:12). One issue the church faces is that people are comfortable with just being saved but not willing to live like they are saved. To become and receive everything God has for us, God is looking for us to grow up.
Growing Up means different things to different people. It is up to us to seek where God is looking to mature us. Everyone has room to grow spiritually by praying more, studying the Word more fervently, fasting longer, and loving more in our attempt to grow. Some of us can grow up in our thinking, behavior, the handling of money, parenting, and family enrichment.
I look forward to what God is going to do in our lives when we prove that we have what it takes to Grow Up!
