JEFFREY A. JOHNSON, SR.
Pastor Jeffrey A. Johnson, Sr.is a spirit-filled preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He accepted his call to ministry at the age of 17. A native of Indianapolis, he graduated from Arlington High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion from Bishop College in Dallas, Texas, graduating with honors. He later attended Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana. Pastor Johnson accepted his call to pastor Eastern Star Church in 1988, at the age of 25. Under his leadership, the congregation has grown to over 10,000 members. Eastern Star Church is “One Church in Three Locations”, it has over 100 full and part-time employees and 30 active ministries. JEWEL (“Where Jesus is Exalted, and the Word is ExpLained.”) Ministry, its radio, television and online outreach, reaches more than one million people weekly.
Led by the spirit of God, Pastor Johnson has orchestrated the construction of the following worship facilities in response to ministry growth: Eastern Star Church (ESC) Main Campus, a $5 million sanctuary and family life center (1994); JEWEL Christian Education and Conference Center, a $16 million, 120-thousand square foot facility that houses JEWEL Childcare/Preschool and Kindergarten, JEWEL Christian Academy (1995-2010), a bookstore, gymnasium, fitness center and classrooms (1999); ESC Northeast Campus-Fishers, a $9 million, 65-thousand square foot sanctuary and chapel with classrooms, bookstore and café (2003); JEWEL Human Services, an outreach facility with food pantry, clothing panty and benevolence staff (2005); and ESC Northwest Campus, a $18 million, 107-thousand square foot sanctuary, with chapel and education wings for youth and adults. (2011).
Under his leadership, Eastern Star Church has planted three churches, New Life Worship Center (Pastor John F. Ramsey, August 2001), New Beginnings Fellowship Church (Dr. James A. Jackson, Sr., March 2004) and New Horizons Fellowship Church (Pastor Eric L. Wiggins, Sr., September 2006).
In August 2007, Pastor Johnson launched Kingdom Word Ministries and published his first book and study guide entitled, “Song of Solomon: Love, Sex and Relationships”. Since then, he has published four additional books: “Making A Comeback: Reclaiming Our Lives In Christ” (2008), Life Illustrated: Daily Thoughts For Your Daily Walk” (2009), “Dialogue with My Daughters” book and devotional journal (2011). His latest book, “Dialogue with My Sons” (2013).
In acknowledgment of his extraordinary commitment to expository preaching, as well as giving back to his community, Pastor Johnson has received Honorary Doctorate Degrees from St. Thomas Christian College in Jacksonville, Florida (October 2006), Simmons College in Louisville, Kentucky (May 2007), Martin University in Indianapolis, Indiana (May 2008) and Paul Quinn College in Dallas, Texas (May 2009).
In 2013, Pastor, Jeffrey A. Johnson, Sr., was the recipient of the Indiana Black Expo “Rev. Charles R. Williams Excellence Award” ; voted the #1 Pulpiteer by the Black Christian News Network 1 (BCNN1) and a proud recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash Award.
