What is Baptism?
Baptism is an outward symbol of an inward commitment to Christ.
Sinners are not saved through baptism. Sinners are saved through
faith in Jesus Christ. Our faith in Christ is demonstrated by
confessing with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believing in
our heart that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9).
When should I be baptized?
Baptism can only occur after we have believed that Christ died
on the cross for our sins and that God raised him from the dead.
As a result, we do not baptise individuals who are unable to make
this confession. Infants and very young children are not baptized
for this purpose.
Parents of infants and very young children can participate in
Baby Dedication. This service allows parents to formally present
their children to God and make a public commitment to raise their
children in the way of the Lord, along with their family members
and the ESC church community. To sign up for Baby Dedication,
please call the Church office @ 317-591-5050.
Why should I be baptized?
We are baptized because God requires it. Throughout scripture,
God mandates that we baptize those who have accepted Christ as
their Lord and Savior (Matthew 28:19-20). We also follow the example
of Jesus Christ who was baptized (Mark 1: 9-11)
Why must I be fully immersed?
We ask that all those who have not been fully immersed (the entire
body covered by water and raised up) at baptism, be baptized.
Baptism literally means to be fully immersed. We encourage all
members be fully immersed at baptism.
