As members of Eastern Star Church, and more importantly, members
of the Body of Christ, we are commissioned to be witnesses from
our Jerusalem (hometown), throughout Judea and Samaria and not
stopping until we've reached the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).
This ministry is designed to do just that. There are currently
many church-sponsored programs/services
(internal) and events that help us meet that goal. In addition,
there are a number of community
partners (external), which we support through periodic financial
contributions and/or volunteer support to aid in our overall mission
and purpose.
Praise be unto God for His blessings! The Lord
is continuing to open windows of opportunity for Outreach to minister
to those in the community who are in need physically, emotionally,
and spiritually. Eastern Star Church has moved to another
level of service. As many of you may know, in January
2001, Eastern Star Church formed and began to operate a non-profit,
501(c)(3) organization called JEWEL Human Services (JHS).
The mission of JHS is to offer professional services,
support and hope to in-risk and at-risk populations. Currently,
the work of JHS is conducted under the Direction of Darnae Scales
through the church's Outreach Department. However, in January
2005, JHS began to serve as the outreach arm of the Eastern Star
Church and provide an increased level of Emergency Assistance,
Housing Counseling, Food Pantry and Clothing Distribution services.
JHS also oversees the current outreach ministries of Eastern Star
Church.
As of June 24, 2005, the work of Outreach Ministry
is housed at 5719 Massachusetts Avenue due to
the growth of the ministry and increased community demand. The
Lord has given us the opportunity to purchase and retrofit this
building for JEWEL Human Services' expanded capacity. This move
also opens up space at the 30th Street location to enable the
administrative staff to be able to continue to grow and meet the
needs of our growing church congregation.
The vision of Eastern Star-JEWEL Human Services is that
individuals, families, and communities will become stronger and
experience victorious living! Please pray with us that
the Lord directs our paths to expand our capacity and realize
this vision. We encourage you to get involved and assist with
the harvest in our city, our nation and our world. If you would
like to share your time and talent to serve the community or you
are in need of assistance, please call the JEWEL Human Services
Office at 317-547-LIVE (5483).
Matthew 25:34-36, 40:....Come, you blessed of
My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation
of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty
and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I
was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I
was in prision and you came to Me...'Assuredly, I say to you,
inasmuch as you did it to one of these My brethren, you did it
to Me.'
