Everyone, at some point in his or her life, needs help. Whether it is for one meal or a month’s rent or an outfit for a job interview, there is no shame in asking for help.
As the outreach ministry of Eastern Star Church, Care helps meet the needs of the less fortunate and individuals who are in need of emergency assistance. This includes church members as well as individuals and families in the greater Indianapolis community.
We provide emergency assistance and professional services to families in need such as crisis intervention and referrals. This service assists with rent, utility and food assistance, and referrals to community partners for housing and other services. Call 317.547.5483 to talk with a case manager.

Care provides the basic necessities for individuals and families in need. Our clients are able to visit the Clothing Pantry Monday and Friday 2 - 5 p.m. l Tuesday 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
With the love and compassion of Jesus Christ, dedicated case management counselors offer guidance for individuals and families in crisis.
Laying the Foundation to Build a Better You and a Stronger Family is an 10-week program that provides financial assistance to parents who are in need of rent/mortgage or utility assistance. Participants will be part of an intensive structure that encourages, motivates and guides them through their journey of success. Participants will meet individually with Outreach Staff and attend workshops encouraging freedom in areas such as Confidence Building, Employment, Money Management, Healthy Relationships and Parenting.

Director of Care
Darnae’ Scales is the Director of Eastern Star Church-Care. He received his Bachelor degree in Sociology from Indiana University in 1996. He received his Master’s degree in Social Service Administration and a graduate certificate in Health Administration and Policy in 1999 from The University of Chicago. Darnae’ is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Before coming on staff at Eastern Star Church, he was the Executive Director of the Indianapolis Interfaith Hospitality Network, an emergency shelter serving homeless families with children.
Dodi Moncrief, the Outreach Manager at Eastern Star Church – Care is from Indianapolis and mother of three. She received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Marian University in 2003. She received her Master’s Degree in Social Work in 2014 from Indiana University School of Social Work. Before becoming on staff at Eastern Star Church, she worked as a Probation Officer for the Marion County Superior Court.
Sara L. Green has dedicated her life to serving the disadvantaged. A 20-year employee of Eastern Star Church Outreach Ministry, she has received several notable awards: “Distinguished Hoosier” by Governor Mitch Daniels, “Governors Award for Excellence in Service” by Governor Michael Pence and the CLD “Distinguished Achievement Award” honoring excellence in life’s work and service to community. Sis. Green is a graduate of Davenport College, Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she earned an Associate of Science Degree in Accounting. Sis. Green is a dedicated wife and mother of 3 children: Attorney Courtney D. Green, Minister Tyler Joshua Green and high school student Michael Zion Green.
Chris Mabrey, is a Licensed Mental Health Therapist from Toledo, Ohio. He received his Master’s degree in School Counseling in 2009 from Butler University. He completed his coursework and internship for his LMHC in 2012 from Indiana Wesleyan University. Before he became the Exhortation Manager, he worked as a school counselor at Tindley Middle and High schools and went on to be a Home School Advisor in several Speedway Elementary Schools.
Raqueiya Thomas has been attending Eastern Star Church since 1993. She is truly honored to serve for her church home full time. She is currently attending Indiana Wesleyan University where she is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology-Addictions and Counseling. She is a mother of one, and an owner of a mobile boutique.
