JEWEL Human Services, Inc. (JHS) is the outreach ministry of Eastern Star Church. JHS helps meet the needs of the poor and individuals who are in need of emergency assistance. This includes church members as well as individuals and families in the greater Indianapolis community.

ITEMS REQUIRED FOR THE FOOD PANTRY: (Each Visit)

  • Photo I.D (State ID or Drivers License).
  • Social Security Cards for EVERYONE in the household or individual printouts from the Social Security Office
  • Proof of Current Address (Example: lease, mortgage statement, current utility bill, paycheck stub or recent mail from U.S. post office proving residency).

ITEMS REQUIRED FOR EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE APPOINTMENT:

  • No walk-ins. By appointment only.
  • At your scheduled appointment time you must provide all of the items listed above (photo I.D., SS cards for everyone in household, proof of current address) AND proof of income (Most recent pay stub, unemployment stub, TANF verification letter or Social Security verification letter).
  • Money order for partial payment of rent or receipt showing payment was made.

JEWEL Human Services Programs & Services

 
Arlington Woods School #99
Mission: Church/school partnership imparting spiritual and moral values as well as financial support through various services and programs. 
Activities: Graduation reception, Christmas support, Security Dads, mentoring, tutoring, career day and incentive day program.
Christmas-in-July 
Mission: Make individual contributions to selected community service agencies and other selected agencies.
Activities: A full day of volunteer service to complete repairs, paint, plant, remodel, etc.
Christmas Under-A-Star
Mission: Provide food, gifts and love to needy families during the holiday. 
Activities: Identify families, match with ESC families and prepare food baskets.
Community Partners 
Mission: Provide monthly financial support to a number of community service agencies/organizations that meet the health, education and welfare needs of families we serve. of 
Activities: Families/clients in needs are referred to community partners by the Emergency Assistance Program.
Education 
Mission: Provide partnership with local schools imparting spiritual and moral values as well as financial support through various services and program.
Activities: Various
Emergency Assistance Program (Benevolence)
Mission: Provide emergency assistance and professional services to families in need such as crisis intervention and referrals.
Activities: Rent, utility and food assistance, and referrals to community partners for housing and other services.
Health & Wellness Event
Mission: Provide health, education, recreation, and awareness.
Activities: Food, entertainment, and no cost access to information, lectures, workshops, screenings and services.
Food Pantry 
Mission: Provide food assistance to individuals in need. the needy.
Activities: Selecting and stocking food for distribution, and filling food orders/requests.

Garden on the Go
Garden on the Go™ is a partnership with IU Health. Each Tuesday from 11:00 a.m.-11:45 a.m the program is set up indoors so that customers are able to shop and select high quality fruits and vegetables in comfort, year-round at very affordable prices.  The Garden on The Go™ location at Eastern Star Church will be on the west side of the church (main campus, 5750 E. 30th St.) at the Banquet Hall entrance with ample parking available.  Garden on the Go™ is open to everyone regardless of income and accepts cash, credit, debit and food stamps (EBT Cards) for payment.

JEWEL Foreign Missions 
Mission: Support the efforts of foreign missions. 
Activities: Provide support for: 1) A college in Liberia, West Africa; 2) Seminary training for students annually in third world countries through Overseas Council partnership; 3) Targeting the AIDS pandemic in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa through our partnership with LAM/Loving South Africa mission.

Share-A-Sack 
Mission: Partner with Gleaner's Food Bank to provide monthly food parcels to eligible seniors.
Activities: Selecting food from Gleaner's Food Bank.
Thanksgiving Community Gift of Love 
Mission: Recognize and honor a local community ministry or agency with a financial contribution on Thanksgiving Day. 
Activities: Select and coordinate presentation of selected organization.
